“Kelly Clarkson’s Boutique Spat Over ‘Molly’ Automaton”

Kelly Clarkson engaged in a dispute with a boutique in Brooklyn over an incident where she claimed to have been treated poorly after inquiring about a unique item. The online conflict began when Clarkson mentioned on Saturday that she had visited the store in Brooklyn, expressing her intention to make a purchase but feeling snubbed by the staff. She compared the treatment she received to the character portrayed by Julia Roberts in the movie “Pretty Woman.”

The boutique, Art of Play, responded on Sunday, clarifying that the specific item Clarkson inquired about, named “Molly,” was not for sale as it was a one-of-a-kind singing and dancing bird automaton permanently affixed to the wall. Despite this, they emphasized that all customers were equally welcomed at their establishment.

Clarkson retaliated later the same day by sharing a photo showing a price tag of $15,000 US beside the wooden bird automaton, accusing the boutique of being rude and deceitful. The shop, in turn, explained on Monday that they had offered Clarkson a similar item created by the artist behind “Molly” for the same price and also presented her with a different bird automaton available for purchase at a lower cost.

The disagreement gained attention online with various reactions from the public, with some supporting Clarkson’s account of the incident, while others criticized both parties involved. The dispute highlighted the importance of respectful treatment in business interactions, regardless of the items being sold.

The controversy revolved around the bird automaton called “Molly,” a unique wall-mounted wooden bird that moves realistically and sings when activated by a crank. Created by artist Bliss Kolb, “Molly” is part of a collection of wooden automatons featuring different birds, butterflies, and a dragonfly, with prices ranging from $4,000 to $12,000 US. The situation has sparked discussions about customer service and respect in retail environments, prompting further scrutiny of the incident.
