Thieves in the United Kingdom have taken their criminal activities up a notch. Authorities in the UK are currently working to retrieve 70,000 pints of stolen Guinness beer. The stolen Guinness, known for its rich and creamy flavor, has a value of 115,000 pounds ($216,000 Cdn) and was taken from a depot near Liverpool in northwest England, as reported by the Cheshire Constabulary on Thursday.
Detective Sergeant Gary McClatchy emphasized the importance of ensuring that the stolen goods are fully recovered, stating, “It is famously said that ‘Guinness is good for you,’ but that is only true when it has been purchased legitimately.”
The theft occurred when two drivers seized two trailer truckloads of Guinness that were meant for local pubs. The stolen beer, comprising around 800 barrels of stout, was taken from an industrial park in Runcorn. The trailers themselves were estimated to be worth 50,000 pounds ($93,000).
This incident follows a recent beer theft in the United States where approximately 34,000 cans of Pabst Blue Ribbon were stolen, garnering public attention due to the brewer’s humorous social media responses. In the US case, the stolen Pabst beer, valued at $70,000 US ($97,000 Cdn), prompted the company to offer a $20,000 US reward for any information leading to the recovery of the pilfered beverages.
In response to the theft, the company took to social media to address the culprits, expressing a mix of disappointment and seriousness. They posted on Instagram, “To the thief: we don’t fault you for wanting to brag to your friends how much PBR you have, we just wish you obtained it the honorable way. P.s. this is real and we are deadly serious.”
