“Manhunt for Driver in Anthony Joshua Crash”

Share

Nigerian authorities have initiated a search for the driver of the truck involved in the accident that left Anthony Joshua injured and his companions deceased. The renowned British boxer was in a devastating collision near Lagos, Nigeria, where the SUV he was riding in collided with a stationary truck, resulting in the tragic deaths of his close friends, Sina Ghami and Kevin Latif Ayodele, while Joshua sustained minor injuries.

Joshua is currently hospitalized, and an investigation has been launched by the police. The driver of the truck, who fled the scene, is now wanted by the authorities. Although the driver is being sought, the police have located the damaged vehicle at the Sagamu car pound. The truck, registered to a Lagos-based company, exhibits significant damage, with visible police tape surrounding it.

Authorities have disclosed that the truck was illegally parked prior to the accident. A Nigerian police officer stated, “He was parked illegally on the roadside, not broken down, and absent from the vehicle during the collision.” Meanwhile, the driver of Joshua’s car has been discharged from the hospital and is cooperating with the ongoing investigation.

According to Babatunde Akinbiyi from Ogun State’s Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency, preliminary findings suggest that overspeeding by the SUV carrying Joshua resulted in a burst front tire, leading to loss of control and the subsequent collision with the parked truck due to excessive speed.

Joshua is anticipated to remain in the hospital for further recovery, with his mother by his side. An eyewitness recounted the accident involving a two-vehicle convoy, detailing the seating arrangement and response efforts by bystanders and the Federal Road Safety Corps following the crash.
