“Manitoba Conservation Investigates Illegal Disposal of Canada Geese”

Share

Manitoba Conservation is currently conducting an investigation following the discovery of a group of deceased Canada geese in a roadside ditch north of Garson, Manitoba. Scott Peluk, employed as a grader operator for the Rural Municipality of Brokenhead, came across approximately 15 to 20 goose carcasses while working near Road 33 E. He observed that the geese appeared intact, with no signs of being gutted or stripped of meat.

Peluk expressed his concern over the situation, noting the presence of blood spots on some of the geese. Although he did not approach the carcasses closely, Peluk believes that the geese may have exceeded the legal limit for hunters in terms of daily harvest. Manitoba’s hunting regulations specify that licensed hunters within game bird hunting zones are permitted to harvest up to eight Canada geese per day and can possess a maximum of 24.

Emphasizing the importance of avoiding wastage, Peluk took a photo of the carcasses and shared it on social media to raise awareness. He highlighted the need for responsible hunting practices, urging individuals to utilize the meat rather than discard it. Peluk underscored the value of food in today’s economy and stressed the significance of making use of all available resources.

Following the incident, Manitoba Conservation retrieved the goose carcasses, and they have confirmed their awareness of the situation. They have initiated an investigation into the matter. Peluk hopes that those responsible for the disposal of the geese will be identified and urged to act more responsibly in the future to prevent similar incidents from occurring.
