Canadian authorities announced on Monday that a 51-year-old man from Montreal, Marc-André Porlier, has been apprehended for allegedly issuing death threats against Prime Minister Mark Carney. The Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) disclosed that Porlier is facing charges of making threats to cause death or bodily harm. The threats were reportedly conveyed via email to various undisclosed recipients, including a senator, as stated in an RCMP press release. Additionally, the accused purportedly made threats against “all Canadian police officers,” as indicated in the charge sheet.
Porlier had previously been convicted of arson and mischief for setting fire to a church in Toronto back in 2017, as confirmed by law enforcement authorities to CBC News. At the time of his recent arrest, Porlier was serving probation for the aforementioned crimes, according to an RCMP spokesperson. The accused individual made an appearance in court on Saturday, although the charges against him have not yet been substantiated in court proceedings.
