In July, a lightsaber featuring Luke Skywalker’s severed hand from the movie “The Empire Strikes Back” was sold at auction for a record-breaking $3.75 million. This marked the highest amount ever paid for a prop used in a “Star Wars” film, as reported by the auction house.
Now, enthusiasts have the opportunity to acquire the lightsaber that played a crucial role in the iconic scene. A Darth Vader lightsaber, utilized in the dramatic duel at Cloud City where he reveals the famous line “I am your father” to Skywalker, is a key highlight of the upcoming Ultimate Star Wars Auction by Heritage Auctions, scheduled for November 12.
Expected to command a minimum of $1 million, the Vader lightsaber was also featured in “Return of the Jedi.” The auction will feature over 25 lightsaber props from the entire span of “Star Wars” Episodes I to IX, as well as various props from other productions within the universe conceived by George Lucas.
Among the items up for sale are the lightsabers wielded by Ewan McGregor’s Obi-Wan Kenobi and Hayden Christensen’s Anakin Skywalker in “Revenge of the Sith,” with each anticipated to fetch at least $10,000.
Additionally, a significant piece included in the auction is the EE-3 carbine blaster used by Boba Fett throughout “The Empire Strikes Back,” projected to surpass $100,000 in value. The collection also comprises a Yoda puppet hand employed by Frank Oz in the character’s original portrayal in “The Empire Strikes Back,” Anthony Daniels’ signed personal third-draft screenplay for the 1977 original “Star Wars,” and a TIE Fighter pilot helmet from “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.”
