A tragic incident unfolded as a married couple was discovered deceased in a camper van in New Forest due to carbon monoxide poisoning, according to an inquest. Christopher and Kayleigh Coll, residents of Blandford Forum, Dorset, were found lifeless in their vehicle on October 12 during their attendance at the New Forest Cider Festival in Burley. The couple, known for their strong bond, left behind their four children – Shyla, Alex, Kaizer, and Emily – who are now under the care of relatives.
During the inquest held at Winchester Coroners Court, it was revealed that the couple succumbed to carbon monoxide toxicity as a result of using gas heating in the camper van. Despite efforts by paramedics, both Christopher, aged 48, and Kayleigh, aged 38, could not be revived at the scene. Coroner Nicholas Walker cited carbon monoxide toxicity as the preliminary cause of death and postponed further proceedings until July 22, 2026. In a statement following the tragedy, the family described Christopher and Kayleigh as vibrant, kind individuals dedicated to their children.
A fundraising initiative on GoFundMe has raised over £30,000 of its £37,000 target to support the children left behind. Mr. Coll, who operated Mystacoll’s Spirit specializing in handcrafted copper art, crystals, clothing, and jewelry, expressed excitement on Facebook prior to the cider festival. The family, through the police, emphasized the irreplaceable void left by the couple’s passing and urged for privacy and respect during their grieving process.
Tributes poured in on social media from friends and loved ones expressing their sorrow and admiration for the couple. Festival organizers also extended condolences to the families affected, clarifying that the tragic incident occurred within a private vehicle unrelated to the festival and that authorities confirmed no suspicious circumstances.
