Britain is preparing for a significant winter storm as recent snowfall projections indicate a 36-hour blizzard could hit various parts of the UK, potentially burying some regions under up to 27 inches of snow. Advanced weather models from WXCharts suggest that the disruptive weather system will enter the country on the evening of January 26, intensify rapidly overnight, and peak on January 27, with snow persisting into the morning of January 28.

The snowfall is expected to start around 9pm on Monday, originating from central Wales and affecting areas like Powys and neighboring Shropshire initially before moving eastwards throughout the night. By early Tuesday, the snow will become more widespread, with the Midlands becoming a focal point. Cities such as Birmingham, Stoke-on-Trent, Manchester, and parts of Greater London are anticipated to experience snow, with Derbyshire expected to receive the heaviest snow at this stage.

Conditions are predicted to worsen by Tuesday afternoon, with snow coverage expanding significantly, encompassing most of Wales, the Midlands, and northern England. Snow is also forecasted for Leeds, Bradford, Newcastle, the Yorkshire Dales, the Lake District, and national parks in the surrounding areas. Further east, Norwich is also likely to see snowfall.

The weather system is projected to move deeply into Scotland, with snow spreading rapidly across Aberdeen, Dundee, the Highlands, and Northern Ireland, including Belfast. By midnight on January 28, the snow band will shift northward, covering Wales, Shropshire, and parts of the south, including Bristol and Peterborough. Scotland and northern regions are expected to be heavily impacted at this stage.

Snow-depth charts indicate substantial accumulations in Scotland, particularly in the Cairngorms National Park, where snow depth could reach up to 27 inches by 9am on January 28. Parts of Scotland east of the Cairngorms may see up to 26 inches of snow, while the wider Highlands could receive around 9 inches.

In southern regions, Yorkshire could expect around 9.5 inches of snow, and Manchester might be covered with nearly 8 inches. Wales is likely to experience some of the deepest snow accumulations outside Scotland, with areas expected to receive around 11 inches of snow.
