A man from the UK tragically drowned during his vacation in the Gambia on New Year’s Eve, causing immense grief to his family. Michael Clarke, a beloved father from Yorkshire, passed away while swimming in a pool at Mansea Beach Hotel in Kololi, located on the Atlantic coast of the popular West African nation. The incident occurred on December 31.
Reports indicate that the pool was unattended at the time, with no staff or lifeguards present to provide assistance. It is suspected that Mr. Clarke, aged 64, experienced a cardiac arrest, likely due to the low water temperature, after entering the pool. With no immediate aid available, he unfortunately drowned.
In the aftermath of the tragedy, his family is working to bring his body back home and has initiated a GoFundMe campaign to assist in repatriation efforts. Victoria Walker, his daughter, is seeking donations to cover the costs of repatriating her father’s remains.
Describing her father’s struggles with depression over the years, Victoria shared that he had recently embarked on a journey of healing and self-care. This trip held significant importance for him as it marked his first time traveling in two decades, a milestone he had diligently prepared for.
