Renowned drummer Frank Beard, known for his role in the iconic Texas boogie-rock band ZZ Top, has passed away at the age of 77. Beard, a vital part of hits such as “Sharp Dressed Man,” “Legs,” and “Gimme All Your Lovin’,” died at his ranch in Richmond, Texas, surrounded by family while in hospice care.
Billy Gibbons, the band’s co-founder and guitarist, expressed his sorrow over the loss, describing Beard as a naturally innovative drummer and a true son of Texas. ZZ Top, with over 50 million records sold and multiple chart-topping singles, credits Beard’s signature backbeat for their success.
In a documentary released in 2019, Beard reflected on his lifelong dedication to music, stating, “I’ve found the people I was meant to play with. I never wanted to quit and never wanted to get fired.”
ZZ Top, formed in 1969 by Beard, Gibbons, and Dusty Hill, maintained its original lineup for more than five decades. The trio’s distinctive style, characterized by long beards and dark sunglasses, remained unchanged over the years.
The band’s music, known for its witty and playful lyrics, enjoyed widespread popularity and was featured in various Hollywood films.
