Share

Cold Weather Payments have been activated in 802 postcode areas following the impact of Storm Goretti with snow hitting parts of the UK.

Individuals eligible for certain benefits may receive a Cold Weather Payment of £25 when the temperature in their area drops to zero degrees or below for seven consecutive days. In case of multiple cold spells, recipients can receive additional payments. Some households have already received two Cold Weather Payments, totaling £50 this winter.

On January 9, 74 new postcode areas were triggered for Cold Weather Payments. To check if your area qualifies for these payments, you can refer to the list of eligible postcode areas released this winter.

To qualify for a Cold Weather Payment, individuals must be recipients of specific benefits or mortgage support. The payment is automatically deposited into the recipient’s bank account within 14 working days, except for cases involving a baby or a child under five moving in.

Administered by the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP), Cold Weather Payments will continue until March 31, 2026. In Scotland, Cold Weather Payments have been replaced by the Winter Heating Payment, valued at £59.75.

Torsten Bell, the pensions minister, emphasized the importance of Cold Weather Payments in supporting vulnerable households during winter. The government is committed to providing assistance, including the Pension Credit campaign and the Triple Lock commitment, which aims to raise the State Pension by up to £2,100 over this parliamentary term.
