“15-Year-Old Mitchell Lawrie Makes History in Darts”

Share

Mitchell Lawrie has made history by becoming the youngest player ever to secure three senior men’s titles, surpassing Luke Littler’s previous record. The Scottish prodigy, just four days past his 15th birthday, claimed victory at the WDF Irish Classic in Killarney on Saturday evening.

In a dazzling showdown, he outplayed Ronan McDonagh in the final, hitting four 180s and maintaining an impressive 98.60 average to secure a 5-1 win. Prior to this, Mitchell also triumphed in the Irish Classic Youths event, defeating Kaya Basal 4-1 with a solid 90.95 average.

Proudly watching from the crowd at the INEC Arena in Kerry, Ireland, were Mitchell’s father, Fraser, and grandfather, Dougie, as he added another title to his collection.

At 15 years and five months, Mitchell Lawrie surpassed Littler’s achievement by five months. He is now gearing up to compete in both the men’s and youth WDF world championships at Lakeside later this month.

In the meantime, the reigning PDC World Champion is preparing to defend his title at Alexandra Palace. Lawrie, who clinched victories at the British Open and Welsh Open earlier this year, is focusing on potential matches against his predecessor.

Although he cannot face Littler in PDC competitions until he turns 16, Lawrie’s family is fully immersed in his journey. Dougie, in an interview with The Sun, emphasized that they want Mitchell to carve his path rather than be compared to Littler, whom he considers a great friend.

Dougie proudly mentioned that he taught Mitchell how to play darts since he was very young. With a lifetime of dart-playing experience, Dougie instilled in Mitchell an aggressive playing style that has undoubtedly contributed to his success.

Before the rise of talents like Luke Littler, Michael van Gerwen, and Luke Humphries, the world of darts had its own golden era, filled with legendary players such as Eric Bristow, Jocky Wilson, and John Lowe. As the World Championship approaches, a special edition is set to honor these iconic figures.

For those interested in delving into the history of the sport, a special edition celebrating the legends of darts is now available for purchase online, with the option for direct delivery to your home.
