Nigeria’s Federal Road Safety Corps has released new photos from the scene of a tragic accident involving British heavyweight boxer Anthony Joshua. The agency has also shared detailed information about the crash that claimed the lives of two individuals.
Anthony Joshua was hospitalized after being rescued from the wreckage of an SUV that was involved in the accident on the Lagos-Ibadan expressway in Nigeria. The incident occurred when a burst tire caused the vehicle to lose control and collide with a stationary lorry.
According to a statement from the Ogun State police and the FRSC, an investigation is ongoing into the crash. The FRSC posted new images of the damaged SUV and the truck involved in the collision on Monday, December 29.
The pictures show officials at the scene along with eyewitnesses, and the damaged truck has been covered with tape. The FRSC statement confirmed that two individuals lost their lives in the crash, one person was injured, and two others escaped unharmed. Anthony Joshua sustained minor injuries and was rescued from the scene.
The FRSC emphasized that the crash was likely caused by the SUV traveling above the speed limit and engaging in a dangerous overtaking maneuver. The agency extended condolences to the families of the deceased and wished Joshua a speedy recovery. Motorists were urged to adhere to traffic regulations and prioritize safety on the roads.
Ogun State authorities reported that the two individuals who died in the crash were foreign nationals. Anthony Joshua has not made any public statements since the accident, and his current location has not been disclosed by officials.
