George R.R. Martin recently shared an update with his fans through his blog, reflecting on a tumultuous period filled with challenges and successes. The renowned author of the Song of Ice and Fire series, which inspired the hit HBO show Game of Thrones, described the past year as a mix of fulfilling dreams and facing nightmares.
Acknowledging his absence from the blog since February, Martin credited his team for maintaining updates and candidly discussed the emotional rollercoaster he has been on, including grappling with loss, sadness, and depression. At 77 years old, he admitted that aging has its difficulties.
Despite the hardships, Martin highlighted the joyous moments, particularly celebrating the nine Emmy nominations received by the HBO series A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, based on his novella The Hedge Knight. He expressed his intention to attend the upcoming Emmy ceremony in Los Angeles.
While Martin did not provide any updates on the long-awaited sixth book in the series, known as Winds of Winter, he addressed the delays during a past appearance at New York Comic Con, explaining his struggles with meeting deadlines and contractual obligations.
