Three security personnel at a nightclub in downtown Winnipeg are facing charges of assault following an incident that left a Winnipeg Sea Bears player with serious injuries earlier this month, according to authorities.
The player, Teddy Allen, was reportedly assaulted in the early hours of August 3 at the nightclub, leading to his hospitalization, as confirmed by the Canadian Elite Basketball League team. The three individuals, aged 35, 37, and 58, who were employed at the venue, were taken into custody on Wednesday and charged with assault causing bodily harm, as per a police news release on Thursday. They have since been released on undertakings.
Although the nightclub’s identity was not disclosed, it was revealed to be located on Main Street, situated between Portage and William avenues. Allen, who has undergone medical evaluations and received treatment, is now recovering at home, as stated in a team-released written statement on Thursday.
Expressing his thoughts on the incident, Allen remarked that such assaults should never occur to anyone under any circumstances. He emphasized his resilience, stating his determination to bounce back from the ordeal.
