A celebrated jockey narrowly escaped a fatal accident when her pelvis was severely injured by a horse that fell on her. Sonja Logan, a renowned jockey, faced a traumatic incident in 2023 when a group of assailants attempted to steal her vehicle. The attackers threw a brick through her car window and struck her face with a rock, resulting in a broken nose, a cut lip, and three broken front teeth just three weeks before her wedding.
Logan, known for riding Jumping Power Two, a horse trained by her husband Tommy, encountered a frightening mishap when the horse, a six-year-old gelding, was startled by something. Recounting the incident, Logan explained that the horse reared up while they were in the starting gates, causing her to fall to the ground with the horse landing on top of her, crushing her pelvis and causing excruciating pain.
Following the accident, Logan was swiftly attended to by medical personnel who administered pain relief and secured her with a pelvic brace before transferring her to Darwin Royal Hospital. Due to the severity of her pelvic injury, she was later airlifted to Adelaide Royal Hospital for specialized treatment. Doctors inserted two screws in her right hip and a plate with multiple screws to stabilize her crushed pelvis.
Despite the intense pain and the risk of a broken back, Logan expressed gratitude for surviving the ordeal and described it as the most excruciating pain she had ever experienced. Currently recovering at home with the aid of a walking frame, Logan anticipates a six to eight-month recovery period, depending on her healing progress and rehabilitation.
After the harrowing carjacking incident, Logan, who has an impressive record of 547 wins, returned to horse riding and achieved success in competitions. However, behind the scenes, she battled depression and alcohol abuse. Overcoming her struggles, she found solace in competitive bodybuilding, which helped her overcome anxiety and mental distress.
Acknowledging the support of her loved ones, particularly her husband Tommy, Logan emphasized the importance of the positive influences in her life during challenging times.
