Passengers aboard a large aircraft were startled as it had to head back to Heathrow Airport due to technical malfunctions. The Emirates Airbus A380 had just departed from Heathrow en route to Dubai when issues arose, prompting its return. The flight left Heathrow at 2:32 pm on New Year’s Eve but had to make a U-turn due to a malfunction in its landing gear system.

The pilot decided to return to Heathrow, leading the aircraft to circle for approximately two hours at 10,000 feet in a holding pattern to the southeast of London to use up excess fuel. Emergency services were on standby when the plane finally landed at 4:28 pm, fortunately landing without any incidents. Passengers disembarked safely and were rebooked on alternative flights.

Travel expert Simon Calder reported that 500 Emirates passengers bound for Dubai had to turn back shortly after takeoff from Heathrow due to landing gear issues. The Airbus A380 SuperJumbo circled over Orpington for two hours to burn off fuel before landing safely.

An Emirates spokesperson mentioned that flight EK002 returned to Heathrow shortly after departing for Dubai due to a technical fault. Passengers and crew were safely disembarked, with all passengers to be rebooked on future Emirates flights from Heathrow. The airline apologized for any inconvenience caused, highlighting their commitment to passenger and crew safety.

In a separate incident, a Ryanair flight to Tenerife had to return to the UK after declaring a mid-air emergency. The Boeing 737 MAX departed Birmingham Airport but encountered air turbulence over France, prompting the emergency return. Passengers reported injuries during the turbulence, with the flight safely landing back in Birmingham.
