Farage Criticizes Trump for Venezuela Strikes, Sees Potential Upside

Share

Nigel Farage has accused Donald Trump of violating international law with the recent attacks on Venezuela but suggested it could have positive outcomes.

The US president claimed that Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro and his wife Cilia Flores had been apprehended and evacuated from the country following sustained pressure from Washington. Explosions were reported in parts of Caracas as troops moved into the capital, leading to visible black smoke emanating from buildings early in the day.

The leader of Reform UK, who professes a close friendship with President Trump, acknowledged the illegality of the strikes while arguing that they could serve as a deterrent to potential aggression from Russia and China.

In a social media post, he remarked, “The American actions in Venezuela overnight may not conform to standard international norms, but if they give pause to China and Russia, it might have a positive impact. Hopefully, this development will pave the way for a new chapter for the Venezuelan people without Maduro.”

Earlier, the British Prime Minister affirmed that the UK had no involvement in the US military action in Venezuela. Opposition leader Keir Starmer expressed a desire to communicate with President Trump to ascertain the details of the operation, which involved multiple explosions and low-flying aircraft over Caracas.

When asked if he had spoken to President Trump, Starmer confirmed that he had not, emphasizing the need to gather all relevant information. He reassured that the UK had no part in the operation and was focusing on the wellbeing of British citizens in Venezuela, working closely with the embassy.

Approximately 500 UK nationals are currently in Venezuela, and efforts are underway to ensure their safety. The Foreign Office has updated its travel advice to advise against any travel to the South American nation, urging British citizens already there to prepare for contingencies and keep travel documents accessible.
