In a celebration of corgis, 150 of the small herding dogs gathered for an international race that went beyond mere speed. The event, known as the fifth Corgi Race Vilnius, took place in Vingis Park, the Lithuanian capital. Participants from nine countries, including Lithuania, Latvia, Poland, Estonia, Germany, Ukraine, Czech Republic, the United States, and Britain, showcased their corgis in various competitions, such as a costume parade, a “smartest nose” challenge, and a loudest bark contest.

Organizer Edvinas Miskas highlighted the growth of the event, which started with 40 corgis from one city and has now expanded to 150 dogs from nine countries. The race featured 94 dogs competing in running events, culminating in an intense final where American corgi GG emerged victorious over the 25-meter course. Another U.S. contender, Mr. Corgington, secured a close second place, while Lithuania’s Moka, a former two-time champion, finished third.

Aside from the racing aspect, the event also celebrated the unique skills of the corgis and their owners. A costume parade showcased creatively dressed corgis, with Amigo winning both the jury and public vote for its knight-inspired outfit. In the “smartest nose” challenge, Latvian corgis Tora and Rusty shared the victory by finding hidden treats.

The competition also featured a loudest bark contest, with Mr. Corgington claiming the title. Despite not participating in the main race due to his age, 12-year-old Duke from England showcased his barking prowess after a lifetime of training. The event attracted both new participants and seasoned veterans, with half of this year’s corgis in Vilnius competing for the first time. Overall, the event was a blend of speed, skill, and creativity, showcasing the charm and talents of these beloved herding dogs.
