McDonald’s Loyalty Points Increase Sparks Customer Frustration

Share

McDonald’s customers are expressing frustration following the announcement of changes to the fast-food giant’s loyalty program. The adjustment will require more points to redeem free items through MyMcDonald’s Rewards. Currently, 5,500 points are needed for selections like a Big Mac, Double Fillet of Fish, Double Sausage and Egg McMuffin, and Nine Chicken Nuggets. Effective March 17, the required points will increase to 6,500 for these items, with customers earning 100 points for every £1 spent at McDonald’s.

Furthermore, the current 1,500 points needed for items such as a Medium Coffee or Small Fries will rise to 2,000 points. The threshold for items like a regular McFlurry or an Apple Pie will increase from 2,500 points to 3,500, while a Double Cheeseburger or a McChicken sandwich will now require 5,000 points, up from 4,000 points.

In response to customer inquiries and discontent on social media, a McDonald’s spokesperson explained that the loyalty scheme adjustments are a result of escalating food and supply costs. The spokesperson highlighted that while points requirements have increased, new redemption options such as Chicken Selects, Cheese sides, and the Sausage Sandwich have been introduced to provide more choices for customers.

These changes coincide with the introduction of McDonald’s new menu offerings, including the Surf N’ Turf burger and the Chicken Cheeseburger, along with the Espresso Milkshake and Chilli Cheese Bites. The Surf N’ Turf burger features two beef patties, a crispy white fish fillet patty, cheese, onions, pickles, mustard, and ketchup, marking its debut in the UK market. Additionally, customers can enjoy the Chicken Cheeseburger, comprising a beef patty, a crispy coated chicken patty, cheese, onions, pickles, mustard, and ketchup.

For those craving a sweet treat, the new Espresso Milkshake combines a thick vanilla milkshake with a shot of espresso for a delightful blend. The menu also includes Chilli Cheese Bites served with a tangy tomato sauce. McDonald’s fans are encouraged to explore these fresh offerings alongside the revamped loyalty program.
