A murder charge has been filed against a man in connection with the death of a navy veteran following an altercation on Christmas Day. Harold David Turner was swiftly taken to the hospital after an incident at a residence in St Asaph, Denbighshire. Regrettably, the 68-year-old passed away later that same day.
The family paid tribute to Harold, mentioning his background as one of six siblings who had served in the Navy before pursuing work in London, Ireland, and his hometown of Rhyl. Describing him as a deeply missed family member, the family expressed their sorrow at his passing.
The suspect, a 66-year-old man named James Hughes from High Street, St Asaph, appeared in court at Llandudno Magistrates’ Court, where he was formally accused of murdering Mr. Turner. Hughes has been detained in custody pending further legal proceedings at Mold Crown Court scheduled for New Year’s Eve.
In response to the incident, North Wales Police voluntarily notified the Independent Office of Police Conduct. The reasons for this action are currently unclear, and inquiries are ongoing to gather more information from the police department.
The police issued a statement confirming their response to a disturbance at a property on High Street on Christmas Day, resulting in the victim’s death. Detective Chief Inspector Eleri Thomas called for witnesses who may have been in the area of the Old Palace Flats before noon on the day of the incident to provide any pertinent information.
