In a remarkable escape from a tragic fire at a ski resort in Switzerland, a survivor held onto a crucifix as they fled the burning building engulfed in flames.

The fire at La Constellation bar on January 1 claimed the lives of up to 40 individuals during a New Year’s Eve celebration. The blaze erupted around 1:30 am, rapidly spreading through the establishment after igniting the ceiling. Videos captured the panic as partygoers witnessed the fire before scrambling to safety.

Survivors shared harrowing accounts of their escape, with one recounting how a person sat down, grasping a crucifix, and miraculously remained unharmed by the fire.

A witness, Laetitia Place, described how her friend, trapped inside the bar, clutched a cross and found safety as the flames seemingly avoided him. Expressing gratitude for her own survival, she expressed concern for missing friends and the tragic loss of lives in the fire.

Ms. Place, still searching for missing acquaintances and with some friends hospitalized, emphasized the emotional toll of the incident and the fear experienced for those involved.

In addition to the fatalities, around 119 individuals sustained injuries in the fire, with many in critical condition and receiving urgent medical attention, according to officials.

Other survivors detailed their struggles to escape, like Axel Clavier, who broke a window using a table to gain freedom amidst the chaos. He mentioned missing companions, including young individuals, reported by their families following the tragic event.

Family members are seeking information on several missing persons, including Swiss national Arthur Brodard, Achille Barosi, Giovanni Tamburi, Alicia and Diana Gonset, Charlotte Niddam Alice Kallergis, Emilie Pralong, and Stiven Ivanovski.
