Anthony Joshua narrowly escaped tragedy by changing seats just before a fatal accident that claimed the lives of two of his friends. The incident occurred on Monday, resulting in Joshua sustaining minor injuries and being hospitalized. The driver of the vehicle has been charged with causing death by dangerous driving, with claims that the brakes failed.

According to Joshua’s lawyer, the journey started in Lagos, and initially, Joshua was in the front seat but switched places with another passenger for better visibility. The driver, Adeniyi Mobolaji Kayode, has been charged with multiple offenses related to the accident.

Joshua, a British boxer, was on vacation in Nigeria when the accident happened after his recent victory in Miami. His friends, who tragically lost their lives, were long-time associates and part of his inner circle. The boxing community, including prominent figures like Eddie Hearn and former champions, expressed their condolences.

After being discharged from the hospital on New Year’s Eve, Joshua has not made any public statements regarding the incident. However, a statement released jointly with Ogun state confirmed his fitness to recover at home. Joshua and his mother paid their respects at the funeral home in Lagos before the bodies of his friends were prepared for repatriation.

The investigation into the accident is ongoing, with legal proceedings scheduled for January 20. The boxing world continues to mourn the loss of Joshua’s friends and offer support during this difficult time.
