Anthony Joshua was taken to the hospital following a tragic accident that resulted in the deaths of two of his close companions. The SUV carrying the boxer collided with a stationary truck on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway in Nigeria.
Joshua’s friends, Sina Ghami and Latif Ayodele, both 36 years old, were in the vehicle and tragically lost their lives in the crash. Joshua, a renowned boxing star, is currently receiving medical treatment at a private hospital in Lagos and is reported to be in stable condition.
He is expected to remain in the hospital until the New Year, with his mother by his side for support. The fatal incident occurred when the speeding SUV Joshua was in collided with a stationary truck on a dangerous section of the expressway.
Reports suggest that the SUV may have been exceeding the speed limit on a road known for its high accident rate. The driver of the vehicle survived the crash, while the three British passengers, including Joshua, were severely impacted.
Ghami, Joshua’s long-time strength and conditioning coach, and Ayodele, his personal trainer, were traveling with him to visit family in Sagamu, Nigeria, for the holidays. Ghami had been a significant part of Joshua’s team for over a decade, running Evolve Gyms in London, where tributes have been laid in his honor.
Ayodele, who attended school near Joshua’s hometown, had a fundraiser set up in his memory to support charitable projects. Joshua, who was in Nigeria for vacation, had recently fought Jake Paul before the accident, and the boxing community, including his potential opponent Tyson Fury, expressed concern for his well-being.
While there is uncertainty about Joshua’s future in boxing, his family remains hopeful for his recovery. The emotional impact of the incident and the loss of his friends may influence Joshua’s decision on returning to the sport, but no official statements have been made regarding his career prospects.
