Google set to launch feature allowing Gmail users to change email addresses

Share

Gmail users may soon have the opportunity to update their email addresses, a feature long-awaited by many. Google is reportedly working on a significant upgrade that will allow users to change their email addresses, a feature not previously available for @gmail.com accounts. Currently, users who want a different email address have to create a new account, but Google seems to be changing that.

According to a report by 9to5Google, Google is planning to introduce a new system that will enable users to make substantial changes to their accounts, with the old email address automatically redirecting emails to the new one. This update could be especially beneficial for users who are dissatisfied with their current email addresses due to personal preferences or changes in circumstances.

Google explained that the email address linked to a Google Account is crucial for accessing Google services and can be changed from an address ending with gmail.com to a new one with the same ending. Both the old and new email addresses will receive emails, and existing data in the account, such as photos, messages, and emails sent to the old address, will remain unaffected.

The exact release date and availability of this new feature to users worldwide are currently unknown. Interestingly, Google’s announcement has so far been made through a support document in Hindi, hinting that users in India may be among the first to access this feature. Google is expected to provide more information soon for users who wish to update their email addresses.
